Hey everyone- we just got back from Mexico. We went to Mexico for nine days to do a Humanitarian Project with a group called Builders w/out Borders of Utah. We built a home for a woman named Sofia and her daughters family. The stake president in the outskirts of Tijuana selected Sofia to get a new home. Her only request when asked what she would like in her new home was to be connected to the public sewer system and have indoor plumbing. With many donations of time and money our group of 18 built her a two-story home in 4 1/2 days. Our family had the experience of a lifetime being able to take the time to go there and meet the people of Mexico and to see first hand the way they live and to be able to help some live a little better. It was shocking to me to see the way they live in that particular area. The resort towns are clean and modern but the areas where real life is lived it is a different world. I can't describe the conditions. You have to experience it yourself to really understand. No wonder they want to come here to America. They are amazing people. So kind and loving and strong in the gospel. The church is the same anywhere you go and that is a comforting feeling. The girls loved the experience and came away with the knowledge that we are so BLESSED! We have everything we need and want and there are many people in the world that struggle just to survive. I think we may do this every Thanksgiving.

Heather,
Way to go. I am so proud that you took your girls and showed them what service is all about, even if Tom has a hard time driving in Tiajuana.
Love, Helen
Looks like you all had so much fun! We are so glad that you have a blog so we can see what's going on with Brooke and Brit! And I have to admit, reading this made both Paul and I so homesick!
Love,Kristen
